OHPERA’s insights from a week of strategic collaboration in Brussels

At the end of March, OHPERA marked an exciting and productive week in Brussels, actively contributing to two major events shaping the future of renewable hydrogen and sustainable energy.

25 March – EIC Green Hydrogen Challenge Portfolio Meeting

We kicked off the week at the European Innovation Council (EIC) Green Hydrogen Challenge Portfolio meeting, where we reunited with fellow EU-funded projects working at the forefront of hydrogen innovation. The session featured project updates, introductions to new team members—like Carina Faber, the new EIC Programme Manager—and collaborative discussions on the techno-economic assessment methodology that the portfolio has been developing.

Our communications teams also aligned on the next steps for our joint dissemination efforts, including the next portfolio newsletter, ensuring continued synergy and shared visibility for all projects.

26–27 March – EIC-SUNERGY Roadmapping event on renewable hydrogen, fuels & chemicals

From one key collaboration to another, OHPERA joined the EIC-SUNERGY co-organised roadmapping event, bringing together stakeholders from academia, industry, and policy to discuss how Europe can lead in producing sustainable fuels and materials from renewable sources.

The event offered in-depth sessions on:

  • Societal needs to technological innovation
  • The current state and future of Solar-to-X devices
  • Biotech and computational science for next-gen devices
  • Techno-sustainability, social impact, and market outlook
  • Standards and benchmarking for scalability

OHPERA’s contributions helped spotlight the project’s approach to photoelectrochemical hydrogen production, as part of wider discussions on how to meet sustainability goals while ensuring industrial scalability.

Spotlight on Young Scientists – OHPERA leads youth engagement

A standout moment came with the #7 Meeting Young Scientists session, coordinated by OHPERA on March 26. Through a hands-on workshop, early-career researchers explored questions like “What does Europe expect from junior scientists?” and “How can collaboration help overcome scientific challenges?”. Participants also mapped their own market roadmaps, encouraging a deeper understanding of research impact beyond the lab.

These back-to-back engagements underscored OHPERA’s commitment not just to technological innovation, but to community-building and the shaping of a more sustainable, hydrogen-driven future.

Stay tuned for more updates as we keep working towards tomorrow’s clean energy solutions.
