On March 21st, OHPERA was proudly represented by our partner ICIQ-Institut Català d’Investigació Química at the event “ENERGIA: Los principales retos del hidrógeno verde”, held at the Aquarium Donostia in San Sebastián, Spain. The event brought together leading voices in science and innovation to discuss key aspects of the green hydrogen transition. This science outreach event was co-organised by our portfolio partner project ANEMEL, in collaboration with CAT&SCALE, the University of the Basque Country, and the Centro de Física de Materiales.
The event brought together a distinguished panel of researchers working at the forefront of the green hydrogen transition in Europe. The “Energy Talks” aimed to bring cutting-edge research closer to the public and provide insight into the scientific and technological efforts behind green hydrogen production and its role in building a sustainable future.
Among the featured speakers:
- Dr. Núria López – Group Leader at ICIQ and member of OHPERA and CAT&SCALE, shared insights into the fundamental role of catalysis in hydrogen technologies and her involvement in our project, where her team contributes to advancing materials for photoelectrochemical hydrogen production.
- Dr. Pau Farràs – Project Coordinator of ANEMEL and researcher at the University of Galway, presented the project’s innovative approach to producing clean hydrogen from contaminated or saline water sources, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability and resource efficiency.
- Dr. Sara Barja – Coordinator of CAT&SCALE and researcher at the University of the Basque Country, emphasised the importance of national and international collaboration to accelerate the transition from lab-scale innovation to real-world impact.
The session concluded with a roundtable discussion featuring all three speakers and Dr. Pelayo García de Arquer, a key figure in the CAT&SCALE network, focusing on the future directions for research and innovation in the hydrogen field.
As part of the event’s outreach efforts, a special science and culture workshop — ENERGÍA Txiki — was held on March 22nd at Eureka! Zientzia Museoa, offering children aged 4–10 the chance to explore the wonders of water as a source of life and energy through playful, hands-on learning.
Participation in events like this demonstrates OHPERA’s strong engagement with both the scientific community and society at large, reinforcing our commitment to raising awareness and promoting dialogue around green hydrogen and sustainable energy technologies.
