The last week of November brought the OHPERA consortium together for an inspiring series of activities hosted at the Universitat Jaume I in Castellón. Over four days, partners, students, and researchers gathered to review progress, share breakthroughs, and explore new frontiers in photoelectrochemical (PEC) materials and sustainable chemical production.
OHPERA General Assembly
The week began with the OHPERA General Assembly, where consortium members reviewed achievements across all scientific and technical lines of work. With 38 months of progress behind us, the discussions focused on:
- Recent scientific results and advancements across materials, device architectures, and modelling
- Planning for upcoming milestones, including stability descriptors and tandem PEC device prototypes
- Coordination of dissemination, training activities, and clustering with the broader Green Hydrogen Portfolio
The meeting provided a valuable space to realign strategies, reinforce collaboration, and prepare for the final stretch of the project.
PECS25: 1st International Workshop on Photoelectrochemical Approaches to Sustainable Chemicals
Immediately following the General Assembly, the OHPERA consortium hosted the inaugural PECS25 Workshop, gathering a diverse audience of graduate students, early-career researchers, and leading scientists in PEC materials and solar fuels. Over three days, the workshop fostered lively discussions on the fundamentals and emerging innovations in solar-driven hydrogen production and green chemical pathways.
The programme featured:
- 9 invited lectures delivered by internationally recognised experts
- 14 oral contributions showcasing new research results
- 10 flash presentations from early-career attendees
- Engaging Q&A sessions, networking spaces, and a social dinner that strengthened community connections
Topics spanned photoanode and photocathode materials, tandem devices, CO₂ and biomass valorisation, emerging semiconductors, and advanced in-situ/operando characterisation.
The workshop provided a dynamic platform for scientific exchange, placing special emphasis on supporting young researchers and fostering collaboration within the PEC community.
