GREEN H2

OHPERA PhotoElectrolyser

Driving clean, robust, efficient, and decentralised hydrogen production.

GREEN H2

What is
OHPERA about?

OHPERA’s main objective is to develop a proof-of-concept unbiased tandem photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell integrating highly efficient and stable photoelectrodes based on halide perovskite nanocrystals and catalytic/passivation layers, minimizing the use of critical raw materials (CRM) to achieve efficient solar-driven H2 production and high added-value chemicals from valorisation of industrial waste (glycerol). For this purpose, OHPERA partners will cooperatively develop the materials, electrodes and components to be integrated into a tandem PEC cell, targeting standalone operation at 10 mA·cm-2 for 100 hours, 90% Faradaic efficiency to H2 with a clearly defined roadmap for upscaling and exploitation.

OHPERA project in a nutshell

OHPERA is developing a new photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell minimizing the use of critical raw materials (CRM) to achieve efficient solar-driven H2 production (reaching more than 90% efficiency in the electrochemical reaction) and high added-value chemicals from valorisation of industrial waste. 6 entities will work on this objective, disseminating the main results through more than 7 scientific publications, and producing a roadmap for the further scaling-up of the solution to reach higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRL). The project has received funding from the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme of the European Commission, for a total budget of approximately € 3.2M, under the schemes of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Pathfinder calls, which support research and development of emerging breakthrough technologies.

Consortium

Developed by top research institutions and leading SMEs

OHPERA’s consortium is composed of 6 partners coming from 3 European Countries (Spain, Germany, Hungary) and 1 partner from Israel. Coordinated by the University of Jaume I (UJI), the partnership counts with the participation of 2 research institutes, 2 universities and 2 SMEs able to cover to whole value chain both with a scientific and an industrial perspective.
